On Friday 16th December 2011 it is the 25th anniversary of the closure of Bersham Colliery
From 9.00am - 1.00pm there will be a Re-union & short service at Bersham colliery

We are looking forward to a good attendance of ex-miners along with the Mayor, MP and AM.
This is a good chance to press the case for preservation of the only standing headgear & winder left in North Wales.
Also on site are the last steam winder from Point of Ayr pit (dismantled but complete) and the wheels from the Gressford Martin pit.
This is an open invitation to anyone who would like to attend. Take the chance to chat to the ex-miners and even climb the tip for a great view (if it's not raining)

Should you ever need reference photos of the Point of Ayr engine, I took rather more than I have posted here. Also the photos on here were scans from the prints, rather than from the negatives, which would have better definition. You would be welcome, if you ever needed them.

In passing, my Dad once worked at Llay Main in the early 1930s as a compensation clerk before returning to Lancashire to take up town planning. He remained friends with the electrician there into the late 1960s.

Cheers

The map is the territory - especially in chain scale.
