This fine little quarry has now been firmly gated, welded shut with no possible access without a lot of metal cutting. Does anyone know why?

Looks to be because it is within Hanson's permitted mining area.

Yeah, Hanson were planning on dumping all the waste from their workings extensions in there. Not sure what's going to happen now they've apparently lost their Harnham Park lease.

Where did you get that piece of information?

Which part? The takeover is here:http://www.lovellstonegroup.com/lovell-stone-group-taking-lease-on-hartham-park-quarry-bath-2/

The use of BY for storage of waste was stated to someone (I forget who) when it was first sealed. It's a shame, there were still a pair of geocaches down there to retrieve.

Both parts. I think it unlikely that workings in Hanson's freehold will hole through into the Brewer's Yard workings, although lack of muck space is a problem. Regarding the termination of Hanson's leasehold (my freehold) I had forgotten about the press release.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
