This is a very good document on coal mines around Coleford (includes Berry Hill) and there is a map of collieries and shafts (hundreds) around the area. I'm getting down there as often as possible to photograph what's left. I believe the Coal Authority have a full time team in the forest capping and filling shafts. At the last count, there were about 6500 shafts, about 1500 of which are still unidentified.
