Has anyone in the past seen the adit that connected to Morris's Shaft? This was described in Shambrook's book as then being open (presumably ca 1970's). The location (in the next field down from the shaft and dumps) indicated by the mine plan is now occupied by a stable block, apparently built about 10 years ago. The mine search done for the present owners (by a reputable concern) actually puts this location as a shaft, although this is not shown on any maps or plans I have seen (although I havn't seen Symon's map for this immediate area, if it extends this far).
The mine plan shows the adit ending at this point (roughly under the stable block, which is easily seen on Google Earth) but doesn't specify if this was actually the portal so it is possible the adit was at a lower level & the portal was further east.
There is an open adit much further east towards Henwood, occupied by badgers, which the only previous record I have come across is a mention in the CAU Minions area archaeology report. This was probably intended to crosscut the Sharptor lode but from the size of ther tip is very unlikely to have had any connection to the mine.
This posting is really in the hope that someone looked at the site before the recent developments in the area & can supply a record of what has now been lost. Hope to do a proper write up at some stage, in part for local residents who want to know more about the mine.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
