I'm soon to be spending a couple of weeks at a relatively loose end near Lymington. Been checking to see what of not is in the area. Mostly what the interweb throws back at me is vague and rather improbable stuff about smugglers tunnels.

A sea cave just outside Lymington called Ambrose Hole however features fairly consistently. To me the coastline doesn't look to promising for caves? Anyone know of it or its location?

There's also mention of caves in Spratsdown Woods near Calshot but again it looks like most unpromising terrain for caves?

You've got some interesting stuff within around an hour or so.

Portland is worth a look, lots of interesting quarries and natural cave.

To the North in Wiltshire are a number of interesting stream sinks /swallets around the village of Tisbury in the Vale of Wardour - Never been there but could be very interesting from a cave prospecting point of view.

If you fancy a longer drive you are always welcome to come over to the Tamar Valley.

We'll be taking the motorhome and getting about be the electric bikes though so range might be a bit more restricted, I'm thinking Tilly Whim might just about be do-able....

There is a reason why the NAMHO conference hasn't yet been held in the New Forest.

If you pop over to the Isle of Wight you might like the Needles Battery, but it's not one that will get your electric bikes recharged.

Saint Aldhelm's Head Cave (SY 9580 7679) - NGR estimated. V. difficult to locate in NW cliff of headland. Choked, phreatic cave: the only karst cave so far known in Purbeck. Karst cave
Kimmeridge Oil-Shale Adits (SY 9201 7770) - Fast-disappearing remains of oil-shale mines in sea-cliff. Artificial
Pondfield Cove Cave (SY 8715 7956)- Awkward access (short swim or boat). In Portland Formation limestone: may be karst but sea-cave assumed. Sea cave
