Ordinance survey May 1865 shows a shaft. This shaft was discovered by a building company building houses back in the 80s in the vacinaty of Chislehurst railway sidings during delevopement of the siding for housing.
It was cover by a concrete slab which gave way under the weight of a bulldozer who occupant was very lucky and shaken to boot.
The shalft was filled with debris from the housing site and a replacement covering added. In my research the enterence of the Logs hill site in comparision to the site of the shaft tells me that the long lost Logs hill mines are very extensive. I,d give me legs over to anyone to help m locate this mine has such pratices in the past have all ended in failair or me being run off the site.
Rumour has it that access is to be found in the cellars of a local Girls school but the last 3 head teachers have always sent me packing.

I assume this shalft emerging into railway sidings was a draw well and vent shalft to boot for the mine belowe in order to bring chalk to the surface and loaded onto wagons. This must go back to the days prior to the invention of the steam shovell which made such mines unprofitable and hence led to there closure. There is a long lost Logs hill Chalk mine.

Hi Caveman Pete,

Did you find out any further information about this mine? I am also very interested in any information. Where abouts is the mine shaft that you referenced?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
