A group of us will be visiitng the Isle of Man soon and I am wondering about underground mine access. We last visited the island about 10 years ago and were taken underground at Laxey and Brada Head by the local mines research group.

Since then I have heard rumors that the Manx Government has sealed the entrances and banned underground access. Does anyone know if this is true?

I asked about this on M/E. It would seem that access isn't abundant, but I'd be interested to hear anything that suggests otherwise. I'd like to get back over to the IOM.

I have just heard from a third party that a member of the Laxey Mines Research Group has stated that "underground visits are no longer permitted by Manx Government".

That's not very friendly is it? I wonder why that is.

I was over there a couple of years ago and met up with Pete Geddes who indicated that access was limited. The access to the man engine shaft has been restricted and only allowed if Wardell Armstrong are present.
