Its not often I ever really wax lyrical re a new find but this place is wonderful & nearly as unique as the Jane Mine engine House. It stands West of the M1 and East of a minor road in Sth Yorkshire at SE338021 and I only became aware of it from a friend interested in follies... this place apparently gets regularly mis labelled as a folly tower and given its architecture I'm not surprised with its castellated top, I was very nicely surprised when I wandered into the wood. It's a lovely engine house and tastefully conserved (Not spoiled in the least).... well worth the 3 mile deviation off the M1 if your passing. Just in the wood at rear is a very old and splendid iron furnace just finishing this site off wonderfully.
The shaft is to the front of the engine house and is flooded almost to the top which can be seen down a small tube thru the shaft cap. I have put both on the DB where more detail on the sites can be found.
