I had a drive up to Chesterfield 2 days ago based upon the fact that this colliery was started in 1938 by a local chap from Loscoe named H.Gaunt who was the then owner of Loscoe Brickworks. I read about this place in the superb North Derbyshire Collieries paper by A N Bridgewater and I was surprised to find this private colliery site still in existance since his book, yet it stopped producing circa 1946... whilst the buildings have gone, the loading dock, top of the drift (blocked with slabs) and the spoil heap are a still in existance tucked away at the back of Brimington and accessed along an overgrown former mine road. I am amazed the H&S freaks havn't got their teeth into this one.... there can't be that many exposed drift mine entrances left in Derbys / Notts coalfield. This makes it about 5 visible drifts I know.
