Morton colliery had a unique winding engine as I remember being told once. It was the first one to use the Stephenson reversing link motion. Morton was of course one of the Clay Cross Coal Company's mines. The Stephenson's had a buisness interest in the Company. Their head engineer, William Howe, invented the motion but because he worked for Stephenson, it was known as the Stephenson link motion and not the Howe link motion.
I was also told that the winding engine was taken apart and removed to preserve it but I do not know its whereabouts.
After the pit was closed, one shaft was used for pumping purposes.
