Hi
I am currently researching coal mining in the North Nottinghamshire area and in particular Rufford colliery. The pictures that have been posted of Rufford are very interesting, but since most of the structures shown have now disappeared from the site, it's difficult for me to understand how the site was originally laid out. I was wondering whether anybody else had any other pictures of Rufford and also whether somebody would be able to explain the pictures that have already been posted to aid my undertsanding. Thanks, Jonathan.

Well you can find more pics here but I don't think there is any explanation.

The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

There should be plans of the layout of the mine lodged with the Coal Authority and/or the Nottinghamshire County Record Office.
Also Nottingham's central reference library should have large scale historic O/S maps of the area. (I think 🙂 )
sleep is a caffeine deficiency.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
