My grand father worked as a coal hewer 1920's late 30's before dying at the age of 55 from pneumoniconiosis in 1945.
Is there any records about showing that he worked at this pit.
His name was Henry Thomas Woodward and lived in Pengam St Glan y Nant.
Hoping somebody can help in my quest. Zomont

I am afraid that this part of the world is a wee bit of my beaten track, however I do know that Britannia Colliery was once part of the Powell Duffryn empire.

It might pay to visit the Glamorgan Archvies [http://www.glamarchives.gov.uk/ ] who appear to hold the following archive documents relating to Powell Duffryn and its successor the National Coal Board [South-Western Division, No. 5 Area]:

In the files relating to Powell Duffryn there may be cost books/pay books etc which might hold records of your grandfather?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
