I was deliberately vague about this for obvious reasons. I have heard of people becoming stuck. The squeeze through to the overseer carving is also bad, as you can see from the account in "darkplaces". My SOP for this trip is to take a folding shovel. Its seems that others dont think of this.

Seems a little OTT we revisited this on Sunday - a nice trip but not too tricky - we went from Masson and out through Youds Level in about 3 hours.

Blimey, if this trip is viewed as too dangerous to be spoken about...is there anything left we can talk about?

Hi Jason
All this seems to emanate from my posting.
Can you please accurately describe the situation at the "difficult" bits?
Obviously different people have differing levels of competence.
I have personally witnessed people having to be rescued, and here I mean by the DCR, at Garlands Pot in Giants Hole, 15 feet. They didn’t like getting wet and got cold.

Agreed…but then just because people have to be rescued from a simple ladder descent of 15 or so feet that discussion of trips requiring a ladder descent should be edited for fear of the incompetent getting themselves into trouble?
It should be down to individuals to make a judgement as to their own levels of ability and then decide for themselves what trips to undertake.
With regards to the trip – there is a simple 150 foot descent, some free climbing and traversing at various levels through the stopes and two squeezes – both in water. Neither can be too tough as I am a fat b*stard and managed to get through – both are primarily gravel floored and can be “gardened” to make room for the larger explorer!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
