It’s very annoying isn’t it , in my opinion if people can’t navigate a mine without spray painting arrows they shouldn’t be in there also the same as leaving glow sticks behind , when I started I always remembered artefacts also in my local mines all the tunnels are numbered in old paint so it was easy , still people spray arrows on the walls everywhere ...:curse:

When I first started exploring I would leave my bag at a critical junction before exploring further so I would recognise it on my return.

Probably not the brightest move as if I didn't find it not only would I be lost but I also wouldn't have my bag with the supplies I'd brought with me in case i got lost.....

Didn't it used to be recommended to leave fabric arrows cut from your nans old curtains as you went in and retrieve them on the way out, I'm sure I've read that in various places. Cheaper than spray paint too if you're that worried.

As a regular purchaser of spray paint for legitimate purposes even the cheap stuff soon adds up!

I used to cut little strips of card with "RF" and an arrow and pick up the way out. But soon picked up the knack of remembering.

Box is tricky. I have a little main route survey and navigate using the old entrances as waypoints. Way out though, still easy to go right past the big boulder at Black Horse.

When did your nan stop sending you money at Christmas?

Ah, she didn't mind.

A quick tip though, don't use her old wartime blackout curtains, impossible to find the arrows in the dark!

Things are now looking much better underground, big thanks to those that have removed the lions share of the graffiti. There's still a few bits that need attention but nothing on the same scale.
I managed to remove/obliterate half a dozen or so markings today. B&Q have a product in a spray can for removing graffiti, I might give that a go next time, or Roy's bitter lemon.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
