Hi new to forum I would like to find out which directions the seams ran from the shafts at this colliery would anyone know or where I might find the information ?

Have a look on the CA site, interactive map viewer, it may help. The shaft details and outline of workings is there - quite complex due to multi-seam working with overlap by adjacent pits.

Select the features you want from the box top right under Coal Mining Data.

HI yes have tried this as well but i may not be using it correctly i can see sites of mines etc but not shaft topgraphy

In the box top right select "Coal Mining Data" from the choices in the blue banner at the top (it usually opens under "Planning").

Tick the boxes for "mine entry" and "underground working". Some features need zoom in or out to display.

The workings are shown as outline only and with multi-seam working it is only possible to get a general idea of what was worked from a specific pit.

Thankyou yet again would you know(excuse my ignorance)by ticking the seam level contour this shows i assume the direction of the seam from the mine marked by the red cross?

Ticking the box will display seam level contours and clicking on one of those green lines will give depth relative to OD in metres.

Just make sure that you use the contours for the same seam, given as a seam code number, to work out the dips - there are several different seams shown on these composite plans. The workings closer to the shafts are fairly certain to be those of the relevant pit - further away they may be over/under working from one of the adjacent pits

It is a bit puzzling at first but it does get easier when you've played about with it a bit.
