Considering a shuffle around Wrysgan on Sunday.
I've been in the usual way before and worked my way up and out of the window at the top. However, never seen the internal incline/wall or other stuff in photos. I understand that there is much more to it than meets eye...How do you get there etc etc ad infinitum??

Go in through the adit full of sheep sh1t, go right and down. Follow your nose through the BIG chamber with the HUGE slabs on the floor, up to the left and then follow your nose again into the level and then work your way alternately along and down. You will find the incline. It is VERY steep so be careful! When you find the chamber with lots of artefacts and the green and yellow dead sheep then you are virtually as far as you can go. At one time there was a wormhole through time and space which gave you a quick exit from here but owing to the laws of physics it no longer exists 😉. So you need to retrace your steps back out but as you have already found, there are a couple of alternative exits if you know where to look. It's a cool place.

Can the wormhole be persuaded to open again using an appropriate application of scientific assistance? Do you think?

Aaah! I take it that's what I call "one of the windows at the top"; full of sheep plop... If my memory serves correctly (which it often doesn't) The adit and chamber you mention is the one you pop out of at the top on the through trip. If I'm correct which I'm probably not, I could go in at level one, work my way up and once in that chamber clamber over rather daunting obstacles and work my way to the right.. Think I'm in about the right area..

Oh slightly off topic: is it possible for a novice such yours truly to practice descending & ascending there. Thus not appearing "such a girl" and and being a general irritant to the cream of AN. No offence to any ladies present. What I meant was the shreeky, fluffy ones that scream at the sight of worms. Er, think I'll shut up now, digging a hole springs to mind..

Not sure what you mean Jason; do you mean scrambling up and down scree slopes and falls? If so, then: yes! If you mean ropework, then: no! There is as good as none in there. But I'm sure we can sort a trip which involves plenty of that stuff... and I would vote for a weekend day as SRT generally takes a lot of time.

Thank you Margot. That was me being vague as usual. Yes I meant ropework. Weekend day works for me. I'd suggest a venue but being a newby novice, wouldn't know where to start looking.. Have van, will travel..

Back on topic from what I have gleaned, Wrysgan mooching doesn't involve lugging "kit" up there..

Some people like to bring a rope to use as a handline on the incline, but well, that's a lot of lugging for not much of a necessity I'd say.

Good old Cwm has plenty of potential for some rigorous SRT work btw! More mines do (Hafna, Parc, just to name a few) but Cwm is nice and dry and allows people to walk from top of pitch to bottom, which makes it nicer for people not actually on a rope, if you see what I mean.

If you are looking for SRT training then Cambrian Caving Council are running a course at Plas-y-Brenin, Capel Curig in September. See:

http://www.cambriancavingcouncil.org.uk/latest_news.html

for details. Cost £10.

I could fit through it, racing snake stylee, but no one else could, with the possible exception of Margot. However since then it has slipped and blocked its self again, so David told me. From the photos that I have seen then the solution is to get a large amount of chemical assistance and "assist" it to kingdom come and leave a hole big enough to get a bus through. It's surrounded by basically sound rock. Bit of trimming and gardening, fitted carpet, Stannah Stairlft, job done;D

Fair enough. A gentle wander 'round Wrysgan, see if I can find a hole to wriggle in. Noticed some bolted steps in one of the last chambers one the lower level last time I was there. There's a steel rope opposite. It goes up to Level 2 I think, opposite the man way that's fed by a steel rope. Anyone been up the steps? It's bolted to a degree. I've always wondered what was up there.

Cwmorthin for a newby sounds interesting. Once I have the confidence: "It's all mine!"..
September's a long time away. Life allowing; the SRT course in Coed y Brenin will be on my to do list. Thanks for that info.

Yes, when I put them there.

Alternative route up to the next floor.

Found it 😉.
Went in at the lower adit, did the through trip but ingnored a little ladder and went right, through, under and over some rather large lumps of ceiling; popped up in sheep poo adit then right. Flippin found it 😉 ;D
Came out in foggy darkeness and nearly broke my neck on the way down... Safer under than on top!!
Thanks for you help

Almost breaking your neck on the way down is part of the Wrysgan experience!

Oh Yes: Nothing like a bruised rump to end the day. Thought I'd end it properly by blindly wading through the river at the bottom.. How did that rise 12" in four hours??? Has it been raining today.
Oh well that's the Cwm for you...
