Wow, I'd expect there will be a large amount of consolidation around the shafts, there was some nasty cracks appearing radiating from the pump shaft cap.

Damned if you do, and damned if you don''''''''t.

Interesting to read some of the various objections to this application; whether or not planning is approved some of the documentation is a vital record of this interesting site.

Hardly mentioned in the paperwork is the chimney attached to the engine house and not included in the design for the place when rebuilt c.1903. I bet it was a reuse of the earlier chimney from the lead mine.

Converting such a remote site to 4 residences doesn't seem a good idea; but then neither does allowing the place to stand empty and slowly decay.

Yes, I'll have it - what is it?

I agree with you about the chimney. Quite different design to the rest of the buildings, and resembles the smelting mill chimney design.

Noted. The buildings are immediately adjacent to the shaft top, and yet this is mentioned in only one document. I have passed comments onto the local parish council.

An article and photo of the Presser appeared in the Hexham Courant on line on Wednesday when around 30 people staged a demonstration at the site against the proposal to put new build there. Local feeling about this is certainly running high which is hardly surprising for an area of open moorland around a listed and iconic building.

Yes a lot us us from the surrounding hamlets have submitted objections to DCC - not so much against renovating the old pump house - but to the plan to build 3-4 new metal-clad 1 1/2 story houses. I think that its over 35 objections now including representatives from North Pennines AONB - let's hope someone on the planning commitee listens.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
