Am after a new helmet and was wondering if anyone has had one of these helmets:

If yes, are they any good, comfortable etc...

I wish I could get hold of a Protex one, but no longer on offer

I looked at those as Bernies no longer sell anything but Petzl but didn't fancy either as they both looked a bit flimsy.

The Camp ones seem the best priced after that though if you're going to walk round with that written in big letters across your head, you might as well get a kick me patch sewn into the backside of your trousers, just to entertain your mates that little bit more.

Let me know how you get on!

After 5 years in a builder's helmet, it's starting to have a few too many holes and there's only so much that chewing gum can manage. Seriously... 😞

Do you reckon it's worth anything?

It's certainly got a lot of sentimental value...

Got it today, and though very comfortable have sent it back. Why? the shell was very flexible and seemed flimsy, also it did not have a webbing cradle, instead stuffed with polystyrene. just seemed like a jelly compared to my old HB helmet.

Why oh why did HB and Protex stop doing helmets.

Anyway have ended up going for a Petzl Ecrin Roc.

Unfortunately HB closed down, then Hugh Banner died a couple of years back.

I never fully grasped what was sold to who, but I know DMM manufacture some HB products now, brass offset nuts for example. What happened to the cams I don't know.

The helmet seemed to go to a company in Bethesda who also appear to have vanished.

I'm happy enough with my US-pattern, resin MSA ... the shell lasts forever and the replacement liners are about a fiver ... when I don't just blag them at work ... but if I was going to spend "climbing helmet prices" I'd go for an Edelrid Ultralite

I decided on one of those Edelrid ones today, mainly on the grounds that it isn't the red Petzl cavers helmet that at least half of the people I go about with wear.
