Last Sunday I crossed an item off my bucket list. A long barge pole ( rail) was inserted into the lower side of a choke in a hopper from Prouds Sump Flats to Rampgill Level. The choke promptly removed itself from the rise into the level. The artefacts in the debris included soft drinks cans of 20+ years ago, several sections of rope, and one knee pad (Blue, external type). The owner of the knee pad will be able to reclaim this item, once it has been catalogued and photographed.

The Safety Team plan to return to site in January, in order to clear the debris from the level.

Persons descending ropes from Smallcleugh Level to the Flats should note that the final descent into the flat now continues into Rampgill Level, and the installed rope does not reach the bottom of the rise.

Some interesting comments Peter, food for thought.

Maybe my red Mazda should have been photographed and catalogued before it went to the scrap yard.

For the benefit of anyone who had stood or contemplated standing on the solid looking (from above) 'floor' of the sump, it turned out to only be about 2 feet thick.
In the same area the ropes on the rise into Proud's flats from Hangingshaw have just been noticed to be in less than perfect condition. Another job for the Safety Team...

There's no such thing as safe, only less dangerous

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
