Whilst plumbing wearing my hat/ lamp, a customer/ fitter said is that mines rescue? meaning a green bezzle on my lamp.
He went on to say he thought fitters were yellow.
I also have black and dark blue.
Someone may know?

there was definitely some sort of code:

there may be a better example on here somewhere, colours are pretty hard to discern in the photo, also doesnt mention fitters (unless its above the others) the yellow bezels at Jane were evidently production miners. I guess it was like a lot of things in mining that were supposedly standardised, the standards were there but still each mine could have been different!
Im aware that Oldham offered bezels in: black, white, yellow, green, red, blue.

I'm sure a NCB bloke told me there was some sort of hierarchy signified by lamp bezel colour, perhaps just an NCB thing?

I also have one alloy bezel but suspect it's a very old item.

This was the colour code when they were still using Oldhams at Winsford.

Green was reserved for mines rescue.

If the bezels signify something, what about the headpiece itself? Mines somewhere in the attic but I'm fairly sure it's maroon in colour.

Not entirely sure where found but it has Type "G" ID cast in and fits the "G" headpiece. No sign of any mesh though

Makes sense as there seem to be a lot more yellow than other colours like blue or black. My blue one cracked 😞

This has come up on a previous thread m sure but I can't find it.

Alloy bezzles will be pre-mid 1960's when restrictions were introduced on the use of aluminium and aluminium alloys in coal mines as a result of these metals being recognised as being responsible for frictional sparking.

The precise designations of the various colours of plastic bezzles varied from one NCB area to another and also varied in non-coal mines. Broadly though, green was usually rescue teams. The other colours designated face-trained, craftsmen, trainees, etc.
