The big lighting debate for cameras.....

My lighting is geared to a compact digital camera, with the flash turned off.

I started of using a 50W halogen flood light, which I then added a diffuser to remove hot spots and have found this arrangement to work very well. For long passage shots I use one with out a diffuser.

Recently I have started taking pics with LED spots and my Retro2 head lamp.

Both produce very good results, but the colour rendition is quite different. Halogen produces nice soft colours and the LED harsh cold ones.

I have played with flash guns, but not had much success with the compact cameras.

Also have used flash powder, but this is hit and miss, got some fantastic results, but also complete whiteouts.

I'm going to try using a mixture of diffused halogen light and fenix light to take photos next time I'm underground, should hopefully produce quite colourfull results.

i use a miranda video light for the forground and a b&q led light on a tripod(20 quid) and a 3 mill candlepower thing for big areas and camera set on long exposure, give results like this... but im still a newb at this photo lark ive noticed for every 10 pics i take underground only around 3 or 4 are what id class as decent .

I have tried a 50w halogen and a 12v battery with limited success. I have just bought a Fenix and find it a lot easier to take pics. Oh, yes ...... I have also bought a DSLR 😞

I find that in an evenly spaced working the light/exposure works fine, however a narrow working with stopes etc leaves the photo dark at it's extremes and over exposed on the sidewalls. Not quite enough throw on the lamp.
