The big lighting debate for cameras.....
My lighting is geared to a compact digital camera, with the flash turned off.
I started of using a 50W halogen flood light, which I then added a diffuser to remove hot spots and have found this arrangement to work very well. For long passage shots I use one with out a diffuser.
Recently I have started taking pics with LED spots and my Retro2 head lamp.
Both produce very good results, but the colour rendition is quite different. Halogen produces nice soft colours and the LED harsh cold ones.
I have played with flash guns, but not had much success with the compact cameras.
Also have used flash powder, but this is hit and miss, got some fantastic results, but also complete whiteouts.
