I thought this was worth drawing attention to the users of this forum it was posted by Mike Gill on the Mining history forum re a New addition to the Northern Mines Research Society website.
We are pleased to announce that some 1700 obituaries of members of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy, covering the period 1892-1968, are now available on the NMRS website.
In 1892 leading hard-rock mining professionals formed The Institution of Mining and Metallurgy (IMM, now IOM3) for graduates of British mining schools who were working throughout the empire and the rest of the world.
The obituaries, published in the IMM Transactions, provide a clear demonstration of the worldwide contribution made by British mining graduates from the late nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century. They were collected by the late David Dixon for his doctorate on technical education in metalliferous mining, but the growing interest in British mining involvement at home and abroad during the 20th century will be served by this freely accessible resource.
