I am very doubtful that the wheels (in particular) are of modern manufacture...

'Here we have for a sale a fully working 1800s Welsh Slate Slab cart made from solid English hard wood and Sheffield steel. Authentically constructed by The Blacksmith at a Registered Coal Mining Museum using period perfect methods, tools and materials.

This an authentic working replica of a Welsh Slate Mine Slab Cart It is 100% new but has been aged with acid to give it that rustic used look that makes this a totally unique piece and will make a bold statement in any home!

It has been finished off with 10mm thick glass top.

The only difference between ours and the original is the absence of lead paint.

It has been made with no electrical tools whats so ever just fire, hammer and antique hand tools that are original to the colliery.

Also included is a section of the original track, that was once used at Astley Colliery.

The size of the full cart is approx 16" high on the track, 40" long, 28" wide.

The Glass top is 42" long, 27" wide.

Please feel free to ask me any questions via ebay or visit the museum.

http://www.agcm.org.uk/

As you can imagine these are not massed produced items and due to high demand please contact us so we can give you accurate build times.

These carts are very time consuming to make and as such the numbers I can produce are very very limited'

Wow Welsh slate cart replica made with English Oak and Sheffield steel with no lead paint

Well, better that than that they start nicking the real things out of actual mines and flogging them off...

Also better than buying from some big company of which the CEO has 8 houses.

The more I think of it, the more I like it! It's pure kitsch, but who cares. As long as they dont get so successful their rivals actually DO start nicking real wagons!

If you look at the other wagon they are selling it shows that in its original condition. Definitely ex mine!

If I read the description of the Astley Green cart correctly they were given access to the original and made their replica as a pattern copy?

My mistake Simon. I am still not sure how he could have made the wheels with just hand tools though.

I don't think all wagons in slate mines and quarries were double flanged; although a lot were.

I once saw a single flanged slab wagon alongside the Rhiwbach tramway the MO side of Cwt y Bugail (the original CyB that is). It had vanished next time I went along there, possibly pushed into the lake as it was fairly near that and on the side of an embankment.

Basic sandcasting. You don't need machine tools to clean up a casting, although it certainly speeds things up.

Slightly off topic, but still hipster related:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IDEAL-RAZOR-KNIFE-TOP-UP-HONE-LLYN-MELYNLLYN-SHARPENING-STONE-12000-GRITS/173472930726?hash=item2863cadba6:g:bmMAAOxyYYlRxIxe

The pedant in me, deplores the extra 'Llyn' and the stone looks suspiciously like Cambrian slate (nothing like the Ordivician rocks at Melynllyn).

However this seller seems to have a more reasonable description:

As a famous constructor of coffee tables I must admit I quite like the truck table, impressive if it is all made from scratch!

To my mind the glass top spoils it a bit, why not just go the whole hog and make a proper top as well? It would still support your coffee. Maybe extend the rails into the kitchen area and install some sort of winder too so one could send it back to the kitchen to be topped up with a fresh brew and more Battenburg

BWahahahahaha, what a fangtastic idea!

one could have a little steam winder working off a cappuccino boiler!!
