From the Beeb:

Quote:

Offenders on a probation service community payback scheme have uncovered a "lost" stone memorial to miners killed in a pit disaster 150 years ago.

They were cutting back undergrowth on a hillside overlooking the Old Black Vein Colliery at Risca, Caerphilly, when they saw the memorial.

A blast in the mine on 1 December 1860 killed 142 men and boys.

How do you lose something that size?

No way of enlarging that photo I'm afraid. But it might be worth contacting the BBC Wales newsdesk, if you can find an address.

Or maybe if somebody in the area is reading this they could take a quick photo?

Ray Lawrence confirmed, the old neglected graveyard was cleared in the 70`s under the Princes trust and the memorial erected, sadly to fall into disrepair again, until a competition in the local Argus newspaper, asking for locations to be nominated for cleareance by young offenders doing thier penance.

Look under Adam`s remnants,there`s Ray`s responce.

Other than that,Adam`s post in 2007,must have been after the offenders had cleared the area,

Must admit, its a bit late nearly 3yrs to Report on a find,
Well,thats journalists for you.
