I believe my great-great- grandfather William Bevan is the person listed as perishing in this disaster in 1860 - but if I could obtain his wife & possibly children's names (even his date of birth) I would appreciate it. Any assistance would be great. Thanks.

There`s a Lisa Foster from NSW Australia asking virtually the same question on the Welshcoalmines .co.uk

Maybe a relative of yours.

Hi

A good resource is:
http://www.cmhrc.co.uk/site/disasters/index.html

Then perhaps some searching online of the national archives.

ancestry.co.uk enables you to search the census and so on, then you can place him in a location, and on the following census following his death, it would usually show his wife as widowed. Quite sad, it often shows that the wife will be "Living on Charity".

Newspapers at the time would no doubt have fully reported this, many now online through the British Library 19th Century Newspapers site, but unfortunately to access these without a charge I think you normally need membership of a UK library.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
