Just wondering if anyone could tell me how to go about finding out who owns the mineral rights for a particular mine or area? Would that be the land registry office or some other place?

Cheers for any tips!

there were a few 'free miners' among the workforce at Combe Down, one of them explained some of this to me, although you really needed to know the area ( which I don't ) to understand the explanation properly.

The Church Commissioners own quite a lot of the mineral rights in Weardale, Co. Durham and Sherburn stone Co. also have some mineral rights for a few of the mines eg. Grove Rake , Stanhope Burn , Cambokeels to name but a few.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
