my friend has a 7mm, and on long trips where it goes dry he is for ever rolling round in pools of water.

I went looking for the entrance to a pothole on a hot summer day up on Ingleborough with a guy in a 7mm wetsuit.
He was rolling in any little patch of sheep p#~ he could find!!
Like walking with a particularly unhygienic collie dog
By the time we found the entrance he was too knackered to do it.

Thanks Jason for the info. I had a look at the neofleece but to be honest I would be happier with the full suit as I suffer terribly from cold legs. Didn't realise there would be so many choices though!

I saw a cheap 3mm full suit for 50 quid new, is this a good price?

Er, probably not!

How tall are you and what sort of chest measurement?

I am 5'11" and about 41" chest. I know nothing about this really, so should I avoid getting a lower priced one? Or do they all do the same thing?

I would go with Warmbac, they are cavers at the end of the day and know their stuff. I think my cost around £80.00.

When I got my ws from them, I was in the area I popped in to see them and got a tailored one. You could ring them up and see if they can do that ove the phone with precise measurements.

Maybe that is why it is so comfortable for me to wear - never through about it that way before.

I always buy 2 piece suits.
One of my favourite tricks is to just put the bottom on for walking to the mine and carry the top in my kitbag, sometimes I put it on underground at the appropriate time.
What I call a "wetsuit sweat" is terrible, it just pours out of me!
A lot of exploring can be done in just the bottom anyway.

Another option is the salopette style wetsuit canoeists use - warmth for the immersed bits, freedom of movement for the arms. If I'm going to be in water between knee and waist deep for any length of time, I normally wear a wetsuit of this type (3mm thickness) with a microfleece top under my usual PVC oversuit, and it does me fine. I did try the Beaver neoprene/fleece combi undersuit and didn't get on with it, but it's all down to personal preference.....

So many options, its giving me a headache! Need to think about this one some more.

Mike, where do you get Warmbac stuff from? I couldn't find any info on the internet. Or is it direct from the company?

I don't *think* you can buy direct, what you would have to do is send all your measurements to them and then order through your local kitshop.

It may be worth giving them a ring and find out tho.

Good idea Wormster, I will call them. Looked at the sizes online but none of them were any use. They havent got one with a 30 waist and a 34 leg, but maybe they can sort me out if I give them my details.

Narrowed it down to either a 3mm full suit, or a two piece one. Just looking online, it seems 2 piece ones are hard to find though.

A "bib and braces" (canoest's) might be the way to go tho'.

As you say sometimes its a case of TMI.

But seriously "TRY BEFORE YOU BUY", there's no point in shelling out a handful of wonga, if when you put it on and get yourself in a position that you're *that* streched you find it nipping you in the 'nads, or somewhere as inconvienient.

Cheap n cheerful

I got one of their shorties and its ok, been using it most weeks since March and it's still fine.

They don't seem to do the shorties anymore but they've still got full length ones.

I got mine from Bat Products, and then went to see Warmbac for a fitting. Though I have purchased wetgloves from them direct, they do seem to have a showroom which suggests they may deal direct.

Thanks! I had no idea they sold stuff like this. I'll have a proper look later on. Is there anything Tesco don't sell nowadays? 😉

Just be warned, I saw wetsuits in Sainsbury's about a month ago and got excited, but then noticed they were only 2mm. The Tesco ones are 2.5mm, on the thin side for mining.

Just to confuse you some more I have a full Gore-tex suit it’s a bit like a dry suit but with out the cost. It’s the ones that are used on oilrigs when personnel have to ditch in the sea. It’s got rubber cuffs so your hands are free but your feet are completely sealed in the suit. Its just like a waterproof boiler suit, it works a treat! I can spend all day in water up to my neck and be warm and dry at the end of the day. I got it from Mc Salvars in Pool Cornwall I don’t know if they sell them but if you know anybody nearby its well worth it. I think it was £20.

Mr Pete thanks, I had no idea such things existed. Yes the Tesco ones are 2.5mm. I am just going t go for the 3mm suit I have decided, but I will look into those which you mentioned Pete. Cheers folks for all the advice
