I just ordered a shiny new Nikon D80 and was thinking of buying a pelicase to keep it protected. Having looked on their website there are loads of different ones. Just wondering if anyone else uses one for an SLR and which model? Also, would they fir into a tackle sack?

I had thought the 1300 model would be suitable. Any ideas?

Erm, dunno.

I've got a small pile of Pelicases in stock and I've got a D80, so I'll have a look for you tomorrow :)

Which lens, by the way?

Nice one mate. Can you tell me, does the foam inside come pre-cut or is it one big solid lump that I would have to cut out myself?

I may buiy a case withiout the foam and keep the D80 in my padded pouch.

It comes as a solid lump, with very small cubes partially cut out of it, so you can 'pluck' them out one by one to achieve the desired result. Seems to work well.

you should have plenty of room for pretty much any lens bar a telephoto in a 1300 as the case has plenty of room sideways (around the camera) but only just enough hight ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Great thanks for the info Ferret

I was concerned it might not fit into a tacklesacke because of the rectangular shape, they look quite bulky but if it fits then I want one! I just bought a new Nikon so am all prissy about it as its all shiny and new ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here's a D80 (with 18-135 lens) sat in a Peli 1200 case.

Although the lid will close, it actually touches the camera, thus you will need the extra height that the 1300 offers in order to pad the camera.

Peli prices are due to rise on September 1st, so if you're thinking about one, buy it quick!

The link that MountainPenguin cites is probably the cheapest advertised place to buy a Peli Case on the interweb, but I suspect either I or SimonRL (both of us have trade accounts with Peli through different companies) can match the price if anyone wants something ๐Ÿ™‚

yeah and the extra space means most of your small kit can be kept waterproof with the camera...
peli cases truly are awesome bits of kit you wont regret buying one

Cheers Vanoord

Looks a bit tight as you say. May have to get the bigger one. Hopefully the 1300 will fit in a tacklesack (standard size). I have bought the D80 with the 18-70 lens so it should have more room than the one in yer photo. Cheers!

Just for the record, I'm going to stock up our Peli cases this week and get a couple of 1300s in before the price increases ๐Ÿ™‚

Peli cases have arrived :)

The 1300 fits the D80 very well, with a decent space around it for padding or for storage of other bits:

:sigh:

There's a major problem for anyone who wants to stock Peli cases in that Peli are quite happy to send out stock on behalf of their retailers and as a result there's no incentive to actually have it on the shelf.

There are a couple of retailers on the internet who are making perhaps 5% and operating from home with no stock (I've googled the addresses!).

Anyway, prices can be matched, ie ยฃ39.95 for the case without foam and ยฃ48 with the foam ๐Ÿ™‚

Just checking, as I use them for my own products (have an account with Peli). With the margins people as preparing to sell for, there is not much in it, unless you are really shifting loads!!!

I make the RRP price for a 1300 without foam to be ยฃ69.29, buy them from Vanoord!

Indeed, the online selling of Peli Cases is a pretty futile exercise!

I sell 'em in the shop, but online it's pretty futile ::)
