A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Photography Trip - Penrhyn Gwyn

Date & time: 29/03/2014 at 10:30

Details: Just a heads up this is still kind of in the early stages, so bare with me!

The last photography trip went really well, so I thought I might try and sort out a similar trip!

Penrhyn Gwyn is a small underground slate quarry about 10 minutes from Dolgellau and is currently leased out by the arthog outdoor education centre, there are 3 levels and the usual chambering and associated tips, there is also an incline to serve the now ruinous mill buildings.

I have spoken to the head of the arthog centre and they seem quite receptive to having a group come visit, although he states there isn't much in the way of artifacts though there is a third level which isn't explored much only by people checking up on bats.

I'm now in touch with the gentleman who organises the trips so I have set a tentative date of Saturday the 29th of March but there is a chance this could change once we have exchanged a few more emails. I would also like to know if that date is good for everyone?

So basically if you'd like to come along and see a mine that isn't normally seen very often, then come along!

This is going to be a very gentle amble around with people taking photographs so don't expect anything too sporty! Even if you are not taking photos you are more than welcome to join.

Any chance of non-photographers getting to have a look round?

Well nothing is set in stone yet, could easily change dates, I'm still awaiting an email back. Could pull push it back a week or more, whatever works for people.

It's an interesting little place, well worth visiting. I've only been there once and it was at night in pouring rain – so it would be nice to look at the surface features as well.

Will the photographers let us out at half time?

Did you get into the workings or was that just a surface visit? There does seem to be quite a few surface bits to poke around in. I'm sure as long as we know where everyone is there's no problem in just popping out to look around the surface.

Yes (it was a sanctioned visit with one of the instructors).

Even if it doesn't have huge chambers and such, have a bunch of photographers of mine-photography lovers together in one place = lots of collaboration and good ideas 🙂 usually involves one or more people being asked to pose on rock faces or on precarious boulders, but its good!

Thanks guys hope you can make it.

Just another little side note, depending on time there might also be a trip to Minllyn or possibly other places depending on what people feel like and what time we finish.

Minllyn covers a reasonably large site & its probably worth devoting a full day to it at the least.

As long as someone is available to let us in on that day, will know more soon!
Either way this trip will still be on at some point if not the 29th
