Spectacular light shows will illuminate two historic buildings to bring Derbyshire's mining heritage to life.

Over 1,000 people living close to our flagship regeneration project at Markham Vale have taken part in a project to record the site's former use as a colliery.

Thousands of photographs have been collected during community events in Bolsover, Duckmanton, Staveley and Arkwright and visits to seven local schools by professional artists.

Voice recordings of people's memories of the area in times gone by have also been made and the images and audio will be combined in two spectacular events called 'The Gathering'.

They will be staged at Staveley Hall and Bolsover Castle - with giant images projected onto the sides of the buildings.

The Gathering events will take place at:

Staveley Town Hall - Friday 21 October

Bolsover Castle - Saturday 22 October

Both events will run from 6.30pm to 8pm and are free to enter. Gates open from 5.30pm.

Markham Main is the one in Yorkshire.
http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Markham-Coal-Mine/

Same name as the one in the Sirhowy Valley

Markham Vale is more the name of the area; and also the new regeneration park

I went in a mine once.... it was dark and scary..... full of weirdos

When do I get my soapbox, I need to rant on about some b***cks

I live quite close to the one near Tredegar. I thought both of the pits in England were known as Markham Main (Yorks and Derbys). Sorry my mistake.

Hi,

This refers to the Markham Colliery in Derbyshire. The Markham Vale name refers to the regeneration area. Other nearby collieries that will also be featured in the sound and light shows include Bolsover, Arkwright, Seymour and Ireland amongst memories of others in the locality.

Hope this clarifies.

Regards
