I understand that Alen MacFadzean has died at his home in Spain. Alen was a personal friend and a fount of knowledge on Cumbrian Mining and in particular the Furness Iron Mines and Wythburn Iron Mines on which he published books.
He was in the forefront of exploration all over Cumbria but in particular Coniston and his beloved Furness. A great loss.
The finest workers in stone are not copper or steel tools, but the gentle touches of air and water working at their leisure with a liberal allowance of time.
Henry David Thoreau

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
