I met the peeps and introduced them to myself, and then the top of Gentlewomans shaft, dropped a wee rope, passed them a trusty dragging tool, and bid they 'farewell, follow the welly marks then the water. then retreated until 2 pm.
@ 2pm. zomjon David, and myself found ourselves at said shaft, had a hidious ab' down and jammed on the intrepid yellow kit bag below, (waiting to be retrieved by 'The Intrepid party!').enjoyed a bimble through the pretty sections and stope scramble, whilst being increasingly aware of the 'next bit'.
on approach it played on my mind that none of the party was as ample as our trio of rather more mature intrepid ( daft.) souls.
I assume Edd took lead and thereafter had a dig . Well done chap!!
i lay and fairly popped No.1. almost no water Brill!!!
No.2 similar look as i lay ready, to be sure i cleared a bucketful, or so from the puddle ,whilst enjoying a flushing through both legs of my warmbac, and out via my upper chest.
Nice!
slid through. as did Dave and Jon.super.
Now the 'beef'! some (possibly intrepid.)party ha traveled this way and left all the rocks, cobbles, stones and even gravel pointy side up! Thanks guys, and gal!
an absolutely great crawl some flat some on knees some 'chimp ish, and crouched, for a little way
and on,..........................................................................
and so onward
and on.
soon 'Ahem' we reached the holy grail of a childrens play park ( or that's how Mr P. Gadd. described them .)

A damn fine trip 600 ft' of elevation and a long way on old knees! 'Kin brill!
i omit all description of the mines, formations and detail so as to allow the next post, take it away!!!

Just got back from today's fun at Snake mine, having been the only one masochistic enough to go up the 250' engine shaft in stead of dropping it. Plenty to see, and I hope Rockchick managed to get the frog out in the welly OK!

I'm still aching all over.
Many thanks to Simon for organising it, & to others for there help.

If you do a return trip, I'll try to meet up this time.

Arrived at the Miners' at 8.45 and you'd already left. Waited half an hour, but it's a windy hole if you're on a motorbike.... ::)

Does that imply a connection between the engine shaft and the climbing shaft?
Any clues for us...we've dropped the Engine shaft a couple of times now and not come across it...

Well, my only intention was to join OG and zomjon but only to drop Gentlewoman's and have a mooch around the bottom before coming back up the rope. I don't do squeezes. Too bad they paid no attention to my excuses and thus we departed for the classic through trip. Everybody became quieter as we approached the squeezes but Ric did a stirling job in clearing a trench and slipping through. On the back with less than an inch of rock from your nose did not last too long. There was a brief moment if euphoria and back slapping before we hit the crawly bits. Pity I left the knee pads in the car which meant that Ric and Jon were subjected to my constant groans before we popped up behind the toilet block. A great trip and my thanks to Ric and Jon for putting up again with somebody whio should really stick to Bowls or some other pensioner activity

The way to do the through is rig the engine shaft, then from the coe passage rig the 33 and the 45ft winzes to take you don to the 80' level. There's a winze with a scaff bar over it shortly before the other shaft to surface, this is about 150' and puts you onto the 230' level, where you can pick up the engine shaft.

However, the engine shaft is in need of some consolidation work - the ginging is sat on a long slab on one side, which has cracked so I'm going see what can be done about that. I also notice some of the packwall further down is crumbling and letting more debris fall down the shaft.

P.S. Ric - I'll get in touch about collecting my 20m rope, sling and krab, maybe meet up in the Barleymow?

Gerald made it out of the mine in one piece and was last seen hopping off happily into the woods after having listened to a severe lecture about the dangers of jumping down mine shafts without a rope!!!
