A new event has been added to the Events page.

Event name: Lamplight trip - 2nd January '11

Date & time: 02/01/2011 at 10:30

Details: By popular demand after the incandescent trip and something a bit different to round off the Christmas break.

A gentle able around Cwmorthin by lamplight...

Not intended as a major explore. Will likely be the old vein / back vein round trip.

Bring a lantern and some lunch, and we'll take a break in the Queen Mary Caban.

Excellent!

I shall attempt to attend (stop sniggering at the back! :bored: ) - but this is somewhat dependent on the potential arrival of the new Messiah, aka the creature that will make Vanoord a Double Uncle.

Nice to see you've chosen a sociable start time though ;)

I think the forum added a couple of extra ones for good measure - iirc it's a feature of data objects where a single one is used?

If you wind your lamp up too far you will fill it full of soot! :smartass:

Candle in a jam jar is a better bet.

there was a suggestion of making this a 'period costume' trip. Are folks up for attempting that? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Well, since there wasn't a string of complaints against the idea- i'm going to assume you're all in agreement! (or does this just mean it's only going to be me looking particularly stupid at the mine?!)

Well I will have to come along on this trip. Having missed the Ratgoed event due to a road trip to Ipswich and the last trip to Cwmorthin due to having to cut and log an oak tree.
I have not got a paraffin lamp, but will attempt to improvise something that works with a candle...

I'll see if I can make it if only because the idea of seeing Rockchick in some sort of victorian/edwardian dress with corset underneath sounds good. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Quite a few of my clothes are fairly "period" anyway, even got a nice old looking donkey jacket but the "AWE Aldermaston" on the back is a bit of a give away as to it's real age (mind you don't need a lamp, it glows  )
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

Sorry Rockchick, I feel past dress codes may have been biased to the comfort of men rather than practicality for women, dressing as a rockman will be quite acceptable :flowers:

I can't really imagine wondering round Cwmorthin in a corset, maybe I'll have to try one day

I wasn't planning on being that authentic, but if you'd like to wander round in a corset ...

Best check with Simon & Vanoord first. You'd be mortified if you all turned up wearing the same thing...

Orange with reflective stripes no doubt.

These two are friends, they decided against the full garb and musical instruments for practical reasons:

Give your self a pat on the back, you could have left it for those who'd find it more of a challenge.

In a blatent promotion there are more pictures (including quarries and a very un-victorian Black Five) and Emily and Rebecca's music at.

Please note, a parasol isn't going to protect you from rock falls.

Well here is my mk.1 candle holder made from a beans can, car battery terminal and a welding rod.
But Emily and Rebbeca would want something more posh than my tin can.. ๐Ÿ˜‰
