I have some excellent above water footage and some iffy underwater sequences. I'll put them up in the fullness of time, only they do take time to process and I'm working rest of w/e 😞

Thanks to Vanoord for moral support on the last incline back to the car park. I'm sure if that had been a nice sunny day with the prospect of getting some aerials in it would have been a totally different kettle of fish. And worse is forecast for today I believe.

Another good mine exploration day. I was very impressed with the underwater photography. I am sure we can think of many places for Toadstone to take his water proof camera to show us what is there.

Hi Linden, as you will see from Vanoord's pictures Heath Robinson is alive and well :lol: There comes a time when you just have to go for it and I was getting frustrated at not being able to take the project forward. Now since yesterday I have already designed a static rig in my head from the experience which will take stills and video. Will pan and quite possibly tilt too. It will have an umbilical connection so I'll be able to see roughly what is there. The video will eventually have a surface record facility and I'll rely on CHDK for taking the stills. Lighting is going to have to be more diffused and top lighting for the video is a must. Thought about that on the way home. Should have tried it out as there were some scenes where it crept in and had the potential to be very effective. There was a lot to take in.

BTW, R/C is basically out for the time being. The max depth with a submerged antenna is only about 10m. So for the time being static line is for me the only economic way on.

I would say that Simon was totally professional in his conduct and bearing. Mind you, the party size had dropped from 12 to 4 by the time we got out!

As for stealing food - in my experience of (three) trips underground with Simon, he's never stolen my food. (Leastways, not that I've noticed.)

I'll put up a bit of a question now, something that I discussed with Simon on saturday.
The Cwm (drainage) adit was put in to drain out level 2, and (I assume) to make pumping out level 1 a lot easier.
If slate waste could have been hauled out this way then it would have saved any being hauled up to the mill workings. However this was not done, probably because the owners couldn't get a wayleave, or buy land suitably close.

BUT, the tracks were left in. With working chambers close by, I would have expected these rails to be re-used almost immediately, but only the last few yards have been taken up (right by the 'dinghy pool')
Anyone got any ideas as to why this might be ? If I'm missing something stupidly obvious, then do tell !

Maybe they were left in for maintenance purposes? A section of the RB T (above Rb 3 incline) was left in for some time after it had ceased to be used for slate traffic for easy access to the two lakes.

Looking at the latest uploads (this time they are Vanoord's) makes me think the rails are flat bottom, not T rail as I am sure I had read somewhere.
