Would there be any demand for an event for complete beginners? Or is this forum only full of hoary old experienced explorers?

On a jaunt today we wondered if there were any forum users who had never been down a mine, and might be looking for a first time trip.

Would be a walk in, walk around confidence builder. Just to show any first timers that the roof will not inevitably collapse etc etc.

Location Yorkshire.

I definitely would have thought so. This site is (I hope) nicely welcoming of all ages, abilities, types. If you like post it up and see what the demand is

I think its a great idea, as much as some of us are now seeking out the SRT and wetsuit trips there must be people lurking wanting to take their first underground trip.

Plus it will help any new starters meet other people at a similar level who they can start exploring with.

Not at all. And whilst there's an awful lot of people on here who are out actively exploring there are over 5,000 registered users now, who are here for all sorts of reasons.

Was underground with a party on Sunday that included some first timers, everybody had an excellent time, and I hope all the first timers took something away from the day.

don't go down t' mine, Da', there's plenty of coal in't' bath...

the thing is, not to start out by believing the roof won't fall in and go on like that. There are parts of any old mine which AREN'T safe, and you need to learn from the beginning to recognise them.

'best practices' such as, for example, walking out over rotten false floors by only treading on the rails...

that, of course, is where the experience comes in.....

i think this is a great idea, ive been personaly in persuit of underground entertainment for nearly 18 year now and back then i was nothing more than a novice to the sport seeking the advice and guidance of others.
we all start of somewere and gain a little help along the way to do it safely,in turn i now run a caving/potholing club and take members/novices to different venues all over, yet still i seek the guidance and experience of others whilst exploring mines which is why i come to sites like this,i have been exploring mines right through my underground persuits and still there is more to learn so for you guys to organise some novice trips is a great idea as like all of yourselfs we were all in there wellies at some point.if there keen to learn then teach them.
