All kayaks should be sunk!! If you want to turn these beautiful historic mines into theme parks or boating lakes, bring your own and take them out (or sink them later out of sight). If you want to go through to Rhosydd, bring a rubber ring and hope you can swim ;) As for rubbish, the amount of rubbish after your so called “chamber of horrors” is disgusting!! Ffss clean up gear after use. Old ropes everywhere :(:(>:(

Our so called chamber of horrors? How is it ours?

I haven't been to Rhosydd since April but there was a pile of crap where it slopes down to water level.

I don't see why people leave their litter at the end? It's not a difficult route to carry it through Rhosydd and back to the car.

Done plenty of litter picks with friends over the years, Croesor clearing dead dinghies from the CoH, likewise from the first flooded chamber at the inbye end of the Croesor adit, Moel Fferna and Pen y Fridd to name a few. So, yes completely agree, wish people would take their rubbish with them :curse:

I guess a proportion of the dinghies are left inflated on the assumption they'll be useful and then deflate over time. But many will get holed and simply left behind which really isn't acceptable.

I'd be happy to do another litter pick in there. I agree with Chris that the CoH is disgusting. However I suspect that the canoe means fewer dinghies are now being dumped in there. If we can give it one really good clean-up, perhaps there's a chance it'll stay clear.

Before the sinking stage though think about ‘Cold water shock Response’. RNLI video....

(About a minutes worth of video may save your life).

Bear in mind that on falling in/over your head’s likely going to be under water when the shock causes an involuntary breathing spasm.

Stay safe... Stay at home.

I meant “your chamber of horrors’” because it’s only the people who do the Croesor to Rhosydd through trip that call it COH, and are the ones likely to leave srt & dingy rubbish. If I had called it by chamber number, doubt no one would have k own where I meant. Anyway, I was there on Sunday and was saddened by the amount of rubbish, ruining a beautiful chamber with the picturesque old ruined historic bridge. I was in “the car cave” in Corris the previous day and they were becoming similar!! Please don’t ruin our historic mines just for the sake of a few chambers of “Srt thrills”. Take your rubbish home with you, ropes and all:thumbup: Our mines are our heritage, not theme parks or recycling centres.

I take it you reached the CoH (Ch17) by going in via the Rhosydd No9 ? If you had gone in the Croesor adit, you would have seen the polite notice about taking out rubbish and the 3 bags of rubbish already collected..most of us that enjoy "SRT thrills" do take our rubbish out with us, but as with every aspect of life, some spoil it for others...

Yes I agree with you llion, a few do spoil it for the rest. But if 3 bags of rubbish have been collected recently then it just proves many are clearly ignoring the sign to take rubbish home. Chambers were full of old discarded wet clothes and old ropes, let alone old bottles and food wrappers. I know it’s not just Croesor because I’ve collected a few bags of rubbish from maenofferen recently. I just can’t grasp how people can’t respect these beautiful mines and treat them like a dumping ground. Slate waste and miners old discarded 70 year old newspapers yes, they’re historic, but 2020 walkers crisps or 10mm climbing ropes does not belong. Sorry for the moan, but after seeing the 28 days later graffiti and all the rubbish in car cave it sickened me!! I’m dreading the day these historic mines in my back yard will start looking like Corris “car cave”:(:(

The sign only went up at Christmas so 3 bags is ok for three weeks..hopefully it will stop new rubbish accumulating 😉 and if we all take a bit out when we go through it might just be enough to keep the place tidy

Didn't the "Corris car cave" become trashed as it has (in the way we're talking here), after a few people started posting candy photos of themselves in there on social media? Or am I thinking of elsewhere.

Yes, it's had some major exposure including in the mainstream media - Daily Mail and Daily Post specifically.

Not to mention the fake sword nonsense.

Bumpoing an old thread.
On the subject of Croesor and the lake "1 West" when you ascend the incline at the start of the Through trip and look right, down to the lake chamber there are quite a few bolts and bits and bobs in place. Whose projects are/were those and what were they about. Was pushed for time when there before and intend to go back for a more through looksee

Also looking at, say the 1920 plans, it looks like you could traverse through at a higher level (albeit interrupted by many inconvenient drops), might have to squirm through the bars at the incline top if my stomach permits? looks tight. How many of those still link through across the top level?
