In 2010 the Crown Estate gave limited company Gold Mines of Wales (GMW) an exclusive option to search 120 square kilometres of the Dolgellau gold belt, much of which sits in Snowdonia National Park.
Now Stellar Resources, which owns a 49% share in GMW has announced that it has received “significant gold assay results” from the latest underground sampling programme conducted on the Tyn n Cornel section of the Clogau St David’s Gold Mine

FWIW Gold price is currently bumping along the $1200/oz mark, down from $1800 a year ago and only 5% up in 5 years.

The price of Welsh gold is always a lot higher than the general gold price. I am talking pure Welsh gold not the jewelry that has a touch of Welsh gold mixed in with "ordinary" gold.

And GCC Parking Enforcement Nazis slapping parking tickets on hundreds of cars over every holiday weekend around Capel Curig/Plas y Brenin/Pen y Pass/Nant Ffrancon. Go for a day out, go for lunch, spend money supporting local businesses, return to your car and find its cost you another £50 in the form of an "Excess Parking Charge"! Welcome to Wales, please come again. Jeez, talk about shooting the goose that lays the golden egg!! How the hell do this lot think that they are going to pay for everything if they scare away or p1ss off their best customers??!

From the links to the news article they have good gold samples. When I worked at West Driefontein gold mine in South Africa the average was 10 grams a tonne. I worked on a stope that was averaging 2 grams a tonne and another that was 200 grams a tonne.

Will be interesting to see what they average if they ever do mine gold.

Sorry didn't realise that GCC or The national parks represented the people of Wales. Will return to the Welsh coal mines website and leave you to your future conservative and ukip government or perhaps you prefer the class traitors in the labour party.
Getting back to the main point I find it obnoxious that anything conected to royalty should have any say in Wales whether it be gold or anything else. If I was English I wouldn't want them to have any say in anything English either sorry if that upsets you . Sorry I miss read the post thought the last one was on about the SNP in Scotland not Snowdonia national park.
One may well be doing a poor job you know more than me as you live there [but the ones in Scotland clearly arnt ].

Does anyone on this expect gold mining to restart in North Wales this is a serious question just wanting to know? Because we've looked at starting small mines in South Wales and the negative attitude to coal makes it a minefield.

Gwynedd County Council have not much of a say in whether the gold mine re-opens or not as it's within the Snowdonia National Park boundary and the SNP is the Local Planning Authority and believe it or not they are pro small scale mining.

It does not matter if you are mining coal, slate, aggregate, oil, gas or gold you have to have a license from the Crown Estate. Any other mention to 'Royal' gold is just a marketing ploy from the last 30 years and the press just naturally calls it that.

The point I was making, and I did admit that it was an :offtopic: rant, was that if we had independence, it would give more general power to the likes of the local authorities and the NP.

Agree Ty Gwyn but everything and everyone is anti coal at the moment so you might have more of a chance mining anything bar coal.
Off thread again if you get to run your own things then more chance of getting rid of those you don't like no chance with London government as they all for the establishment as it stands. Before anyone thinks this an anti anything but wales rant then some of my best friends as Durham miners and they think the same od the government in London.

No it was not. You are referring to Gwynfynydd in the mid 1980's when they wanted to use a cable car system to carry the waste over a mile away to a higher point the other side of the valley where they wanted to tip the waste to fill in a hollow between 2 hills. They were going to dump it over a stream etc and create a lot of problems for the future, that and the fact that it would have been highly visible from miles away got it turned down.
The mine shut down in the late 1990's just before the Legislation change that would have made the mine owner liable for pollutants from the mine 'forever'.

I forgot that the CA issued licenses for coal.
