I would come up for this, but probably no chance at the moment - my back went 6 weeks ago and I only got normal walking back last week.

Prob might be new year until I try to get underground, unless there is a miraculous improvement in the meantime.

Thanks Roy, you haven't by any chance in your pursuit of Eastern studies found a miracle pressure point for the back? One press and it resets to (I would settle for almost) good as new?

Lie on your front for 20-minute sessions every few hours, and slowly bend your back upwards into a 'sphinx' position, hold it a bit and release. This has fixed a jammed back for me in two days - completely gone. The spine gets to rest on top of your body rather than the other way around, and all the bones can re-jiggle under gravity without stressing the muscles around them.

Worth a try, especially once we hit the 50's...;)

Yes, but unfortunately I'm about 200 miles away.

pwhole fix sounds worth a try. A bit similar to my 'hands on' fix, but mine is very hands on.

You could try hanging off a door or similar.
Just grasp the top of an open door with your body right up against it and raise your legs.

Maybe we need to have a dedicated mine explorers aliments thread?

PW - I do that exercise, loads of other ones as well to keep things stretched and muscles for lower back, but still happens every so often - though this is the 1st time in 4 years.

Do the door stretch as well Roy!

Mine explorers and cavers ailments?

Beware of bad posture through continued stooping.
Its very important to maintain a good posture in daily life, ones centre of gravity should be in the hara which is about where your belly button is. As daft as it sounds I believe that daily press ups are not only a good exercise but also a good posture correction routine.

A lot of issues in later life are caused by bad posture.

Consider the rather daft boy racer fashion of the sixties of fitting Minis with wheel spacers. This caused the weight of the vehicle to be outside of the plane of the bearing, the result was wheels coming off, eventually spacers were banned.

So imagine what bad posture does to your body. You get away with anything for so long, like smoking.

Still legal to buy and fit wheel spacers in this country Roy, banned in quite a few other places though.

Hanging off a door sounds very bad for your hinges - ;D

I find my knees play up more than my back 😞 It's been a crap year for me too health wise - I'm perfectly fine but there's been a lot of illness in the family ;(

Anyhow I wish I was closer as I'd love to get more involved in this sort of thing - everywhere is just so far away from Cambridge! I could probably manage to contribute a bit towards costs if necessary though. I was very impressed with the place during the recent NAMHO.

Only downside with stretches is they might not be the right one.
The stretches I did when I slipped a disk worked fine then but for a more recent injury they could have made it worse.
Worth seeing a chiropractor or osteopath and getting a decent chair if like me you spend hours driving a computer.

I had knee problems, my own doing actually, and tried supports.
Expensive 'best' neoprene made it worse, cheaper elastic worked a treat.

Maybe a lesson here.

My mother, in particular, is an expert diagnostician for the affliction known as Going-Down-That-Mine-itis (not to be confused with Riding-That-Motorbike-osis).

Symptoms include aches, pains, mild hypothermia, cuts and bruises and looking generally tired but content.

Although the condition is untreatable, raised eyebrows, wagging forefinger and occasional scolding are thought erroneously by some to have an effect.

The best prevention is to stay indoors and watch spirit-crushing gameshows whilst trying to look vaguely optimistic :bored:

:offtopic:

Anyone else up for a looky-see?

I see a whole population totally subdued by spirit crushing game shows, wondering around aimlessly with bar codes stamped on their heads.

The only refuge being Rampgill

See, I got it back!

Don't forget daytime TV for those for which the mental agility required for game shows is a terminal fall.
