All credit to them revamping parts of the tours, they have been running a long time now, I recall several visits back to the 1970's, probably the best show mine in Wales, long may they continue :thumbup:

Talking of Llechwedd......

Last year i picked up some cold war era digital clock for a mate of mine. Drove over one night to Bath to get it. Got talking to the bloke and turns out he was on the board of directors at Llechwedd when it first opened to the public, and was proud of the fact that he was the driving force behind the public tours. He then moved on to help open Monkton Farleigh......his name was David iirc.

The new tours look good. I first went down in 1988 and it hadn't changed a bit when i went back 3 years ago!.

Quite how bright blue lighting does this, I'm not sure. To my eyes that (and the like) makes the mine look too theatrical. Maybe that's what the powers that be think the public want.

Well everyone knows from watching films and TV drama that it is not dark underground.
Everywhere is lit with a green glow.
I don't know what all the fuss about mining lamps is about.

Yep, most mines in films have mysterious red light in apparently long forgotten tunnels, and roller coaster like railway tracks... Did anyone see the latest Journey to the centre of the earth? Now a mine like that one would be a good explore

the green glow would be from the giant maggots.

Ay! Even Edge of Darkness managed to get eerie glows coming in stage left from the unlit and abandoned part of the mine!

Thanks for the comments. :thumbup: Before doing the job we had meetings with the owners of Llechwedd to dicuss their requirements. It was decided due to financial constraints to overhaul the system that was already in place rather than replace the equipment with new LEDs. As this is a tourist attraction and has to compete with other venues for tourist trade, whilst not being in the same financial league as Wooky Hole Caves, we lit the caverns to high light the features for visitors, not as an underground Disney World or as a traditional mine tour. For those of you interested, Llechwedd may be doing a lot more for tourism in the future. :lol: :lol: :thumbup:
