Andrew Roberts, the MD has just released this news:-

J W Greaves & Sons Ltd, Llechwedd Slate Mines, Blaenau Ffestiniog has engaged with the Archive Department of Gwynedd Council and the Museum Service to begin the process of safe keeping the company's historical documents, plans, artefacts and photographs.

I trust this is welcome news to enthusiasts as it safeguards industrial history that will be catalogued, kept in a safe environment and, in due course, will be accessible to all.
The project will begin sometime during January 2015.

Andrew

That's very good news for us ind. archaeology types!

Well that is nice, shame they didn't adopt this idea a few years ago before destroying the buildings

That is all the result of a change in MD a few years back. A lot of good work has been done since then by Andrew Roberts.

Llechwedd do seem to be making major efforts to preserve their history now; the locos, and now this. Great to hear.

I agree, except for the fact a group had offered to pay for and remove the historic winding engine prior to it being smashed up!
