Wrysgan was hard to photograph from a single point last time I was there, I think we can all agree that lighting chambers of such a size is difficult. Has anyone attempted to do this before?
I was thinking in the summer or something if enough people wanted to we could wonder around there taking shots and using eachother for scale, would be the only way really 😛
The first chamber on the lowest level spans several floors and some pretty awesome photos could be taken on long exposures if we had enough light/people :)

have several people/light sources distributed about the chamber (if people are the subjects have them stand still of close the shutter when they move).
Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

Aye. Light trails would not be ideal. But likewise having light distrubuted over a 300 ft wide chamber from a single source wouldnt work too well. Maybe have a few people on bottom floor, some standing near the central pillar, and then theres a few other floors above that too

One PF100 flash bulb would do it

Is this an open sort of trip? I would bring a couple of fenix and flash bulbs

One thing, when we talk about big chambers in Wrysgan most of us refer to the first chamber passed through on level 1? (bottom level I think). Looking at the survey there are some enormous chambers further into the mine on levels 3 and above, anyone been here?

Yes it will be an open trip, free for all, for numpty photographers like myself who want to improve and for experienced photographers who fancy a laid back day out.
Newstuff has a plan to photograph the largest chambers "with a twist" and will also act as a bit of an advisor to the rest of us on technical matters. I was also going to ask Willy Eckerslyke to do the same... :flowers: :flowers:
There will be plenty of notice, but to be fair to Dr J, who has volunteered to lead a photo trip to Box, I don't want to steal his thunder  His trip comes first!
Can't wait for Box, by the way

Dates and details of both trips TBC. Watch this space :flowers:

Erm can someone PM me the twist ;)
I plan to do a similar project beneath the Old Man when I get my poor excuse of a tripod fixed.

Another idea, there are some housed size boulders in one of the upper chambers, could get some cool shots with people for scale 😛 I think the roof is now safe...

Nice idea :)

This trip sounds a good one. Ages since I took any photos in Wrysgan. And I couldn't take photos back that far anyway; which isn't to suggest I can now of course

Twist, I have no idea, only time, or Sinker, will tell

I have toyed around with taking photo's in large chambers and found success by lighting a couple of areas of the chamber, then for the next frame move the lights to another area and so on. After several shots the images are blended in photoshop (or similar) using layers. Works well

Any more news on this event? I had this, probably overly-ambitious idea of light painting a dragon in a Wrysgan chamber lately. The idea is good, the photo will probs look like a mess.

Ok update!
It's looking likely to be sometime around the 2nd to 3rd week in July....because I want it to be sunny and dry to haul tons of photo kit up there
Newstuff, Willy Eckerslyke and myself are working on it, and we should have confirmation over the next few days.
We haven't forgotten you all
There will be a good few weeks notice

Newstuff wants to try something that needs lots of assistants...or "servants" as he will probably refer to us!
It won't take long...the rest of the day will be for numpties like myself to pick the brains of the more experienced photographers and get some basic techinque buttoned down, and also for folks to wander around one of the most photogenic mines in North Wales and have a chilled out day taking photos without feeling that they are holding up a trip and need to rush about the place
Also a good opportunity to have others around to help with lighting etc.
Or asking me to stand on false floors or under 10,000 tonnes of hanging death because it shows "scale"!! You know how it is..."Phil could you just stand on that crumbling bridge and look manly...while I take this 10 minute exposure..."
Ok I'm rambling....details to be posted up in a new thread hopefully over the weekend

I prefer "lighting bitches" 😉

Nah, I just need a few willing (brave? Silly?) volunteers that can sit very still for 30 or so seconds.

Bitches is good. I'd be willing. So, the image I have in my head is 5 explorers stood beneath a precarious roof that could go any minute, captioned "we really shouldn't be here".
Whilst you're taking such photos, could I leave my camera beside yours or whoever else to get same affect. I would love to get some pics of these chambers but helping out is more important 😛
I had one idea. The chamber in the link here is in Wrysgan and made of three exposures, muddled together. Also my amazing skills with photoshop, or in this case 'Paint' (note sarcasm) prompted me to paste in some people for scale, as at the time I didn't think to do this:

Looking at the map there are some bigass chambers further in about 400ft in length which I thought, as an idea, with lights placed around the various pillars some amazing shots could be created, though this is part of Wrysgan I haven't yet visited
