If anyone fancies a warm, dry, clean alternative to muddy holes in the ground there is an International Conference on Early Railways taking place in Galeri, Caernarfon this weekend. It opens at 8pm on Thursday with a free public lecture by Dafydd Gwyn entitled Railways in Gwynedd 1790 - 1848. Knowing Dafydd's interests I think it likely that slate quarry railways will be included. 🙂
