As I understand it from the plan, what you are looking at is the man way and the separate hopper.
The original way down, pre SRT was via the calcited ladders but I think over the years this way down has become a little challenging.
So the hopperway(timbers long gone), is used a the preferred safer way.

Not sure about hopperway, unless that's beyond Bog Shaft...
I was looking at 2 calcited manways (with ladders and one with ropes as well) down from the sub level below Smallcleugh Horse that you reach either by the ladderway down from SC or by the sump in the bottom of the stope. The one without ropes is on the opposite side to the one with IIRC.

In the sub level below Cowhill XV, there are 2 calcited ladders. The one you get to first is the one for Caplecleugh on the through trip. I think it does have some rope in it now as hand lines as parts of the ladders have long gone.

If you carry on in that sublevel (eastwards) you hit another set of angled calcited ladders. This enters another sublevel. From here you can enter a isolated eastern part of Caplecleugh level.

See:

Anyway, good to hear that all is clear !

Nearly all clear, don't lift up any of the rocks on the bit of Gypsum Corner on your left as you come in from Hetherington's. Some low-life reptile has left an 'offering' which I discovered when picking up the Sainsbury's carrier bag that had been parked on top and may have been used as a wipe with similar absorbency as Izal. :curse:
The bag is no longer there, along with assorted other bits of rubbish I found on my meanderings but the richard is still in original location!
