Hi there,

Are you a fan - or do you know a lot about Dinorwig Slate Mine?

I am a journalist working for Media Wales in Cardiff and we are running a feature in next week's Western Mail Magazine based on a new book entitled '1001 Historic Sites To See Before You Die' - of which Dinorwig Slate Mine is one.

We are looking to speak to or hear from someone knowledgable about the Mine who can give their opinion on why the site is important, why they believe (or don't believe) it deserves a place in the book - and any memories or recollections of the site they may have. We'd love to have a picture of you to go along with it, this can be emailed along to me at [email protected].
Please do get in touch with me via email or on 02920 243764.

Hope to hear from you soon. 🙂

We trust that you believe, Vanoord, that Dinorwig deserves a mention!

I wasn't entirely volunteering as I don't have much of a personal link, but I should be happy to compose a few words about the significance (and history) of Dinorwig.

Is there anyone about who worked there?

There are quite a few pics, incidentally, in the various albums: http://www.aditnow.co.uk/mines/Dinorwig-Slate-Mine/

If you wouldn't mind - I'd really appreciate it. I don't know much about the Mine so am looking to you - the experts - to tell me whether its place in the worldwide compendium of 'historic sites to see before you die' is justly deserved!

I would need, say, 150/200 words? By early next week if possible. Plus your name, age, whereabouts you live (not full street address, don't worry, just street name/area) and occupation. If this could be accompanied by a head and shoulders shot then that would be fantastic.

I look forward to hearing from you and learning more about Dinorwig!

Yours,

Victoria :flowers:

But not the avatar for the head and shoalders shot. 😉
The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there.

Talking of which...I like your new avatar, Carnkie, but what is it? A juvenile Honey Buzzard ? A Harris Hawk ? It's got me!

I was hoping I wouldn't be asked that. I think it's a mine explorer from the past.

I reckon it is a mine manager from the past, look at those shrewd eyes! :offtopic:

Funny enough the caption with it was eye_spy.

Interestingly most/all of the Accipters can see in/use ultra-violet light. Urine and faeces of smaller mammels glows bright in UV. Some have vision that might well extend into infra-red.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
