Hi, my Dad worked in silverband mine from before the war upto sometime in the 60's, I wonder if anybody out there has any information about the mine at this time or if his name was ever mentioned, he was Frank Blockley .

We had a couple of (Northern) Blockleys working at Sallett Hole in the '80's, where they offered relocation by Laportes when they gave up on Silverbands?

Eddy & John both worked in Sallet Hole, early '80's (after Ladywash), one was a fitter, the other a damn gud miner, can't recall which was which, although IIRC the fitter went on to do something with motorbikes at Taddington.

Hi was your Dad called John, apparently according to my older brother he lived next door to us at Silverband, although I don't remember, I know there was another brother Fred who lived in West Cumbria and died about 20 years ago.

Got it wrong, it was uncle Tom, I'm Alan the youngest of the family, that's why I can't remember details, although I am in contact with Frankie and will give him a call when he comes back off holiday.

Another question about the silver band mine.

I have it in my mind that part of the wire from the aerial ropeway went to Glencoe for the then new chairlift in the late 1950s. Since the aerial runway would have been about 4 miles long there would have been plenty of it. Does anyone know if this story is true or is it just a figment of my imagination ?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
