Walked through Cligga last year and was privileged to see a pair of peregrine falcons hunting over the cliff. I had planned a return trip this summer to try to see them again, but no joy due to lock down. I am hoping to go back again later this year, but whilst there I thought I would try to get down to the beach when the tides are right and when (if?) the weather improves. I understand from the de Nul booklet this is not without some difficulty and I have no idea where the path down leaves the coast path. Does anyone have simple directions or a sketch map?

The path is not difficult to find, just difficult to use and requires a good head for heights. Go out to the right of the cove on the cliff top and look for a sloping path bearing round. The path had a fall of material a few years back and last time I did it required a climb down - with an 80 foot drop below.

Best attempted in dry weather.
There are worse paths a plenty, Wheal Prudence is 'interesting'.

That's the Cligga path alright, first went in the mine in the early 70's.

Middle level is a bit difficult. From the cliff path down you will see it divide with one route down, the other level. The level will go inwards into the cove, still at height, and the original path gone, so now its a traverse over to where you will see like coal, a dark patch. You will know it when you see it. Alternative is to handline down the incline from the top.

Top level is difficult to find if you dont know it. Its on the other side of the left hand side of the cove, if you can follow, in the back of a sort of quarry.

Years ago when I was doing all these, I thought I was pretty cool at it. One path down to "the mine of radioactive fish" I circumvented by an easy way, only to see a party coming down the path of death with kids on their backs.
Seen this again since, I suppose they grow up in the area and it becomes second nature.

I feel ancient looking at the video and various photo's of Cligga, I suppose it's because I worked underground with a bloke that used to work down Cligga when it was fully working, even worse I used to work with a bloke underground that used to work down Polberro when it was a working.

Anyone remember Dave Berry a Cornwall mine explorer from the early 70's, used to live at Lanner and also at Wheal Alfred, he had a powerful motorbike?

You dont have any archive underground photos of Polberro do you?
It makes me sad I never photographed the place to death before the fall in the adit in 1992.

I have one that I THINK I took beyond Turnavore Shaft after a swimming adventure. I am trying to put together an underground description from my own memories and some other accounts.

I have developed an interest in Polberro and will eventually upload a document written from my notes of 27 years back and another source together with photos I have manged to dig out. The above is erroneous.

The big fall which completely blocked the adit was April 1993. The scene of my swimming adventures was not Turnavore Shaft, I can see this from the surveys.
I will put together as much info as I can.

By way, the two surveys on here are different northings, to match one needs rotating 180 degrees, then one sees sense.

Looking forward to that Roy. Polberro has always been on my radar, and the association with the latterly incorporated Wheal Luna is fascinating.
