Does anyone have the real name for the workings in the cliff on the beach?
AK Hamilton Jenkin suggested it could be Wheal Mary as there were copper ore ticketing sales from "Wheal Mary at Portreath", but there were similar (small) sales from "Dolcoath at Portreath" and "Wheal Tolgus at Portreath", & I think it very unlikely there were also mines called Dolcoath and Wheal Tolgus at Portreath. I think that for some reason small parcels of ore were sold at Portreath rather than, as was normal, on the mine. AKHJ's suggestion seems to have then been treated as fact by others.
The trend of the structure on the beach suggests it was probably a lead lode, has anyone looked at the mineralogy?
