Large Crater has appeared next to the entrance to the new estate (yet to be built) opposite the scrap yard near to the older Tesco's. This crater (could not see if it was a shaft or not!) is surrounded by security fencing recently put up. It would have lain close to if not under the old Holmen's site.
Any better info gladly rec'd and I will try to get closer as well as check the area out on the old maps.

Does this shed any light on the issue?

Thanks.
I also checked old maps today and the old shaft indicated is marked as an Old shaft (to the east of Wheal Killas, Dolcoath) on the 1908 map. There is mention of works to "the east of Wheal Killas" in 1852. However I suspect it maybe an old 18th Century shaft.
This shaft is marked on the published maps, so therefore would have been picked up in the mining survey hopefully.
So, is this a collapse? Or work to stabilise / re-cap a known shaft before building commences? I only noticed it after a period of heavy rain on Friday, but the fencing may have been there before that. Will check the planning documents to see if there is more info.
If anyone with connections to the local capping contractors has any more info, will be interesting to hear!

EDIT:
Found some more evidence that suggests Camborne Consols was on the other side of the road, so may have been part of this mine?

Possibly any of the above options, developers are normally a bit cagey about shafts etc so tend not to publish remedial works too widely.

Found an interesting site whilst researching, would be pure coincidence if it's the shaft in question.

They have filled it in and are putting several inspection chambers above it ....perhaps it is a connection to the sewers?? Whatever it is, it runs almost over where the shaft should be.

4 inspection chambers, filled with earth, then a steel grid ready for concrete to be poured over it.
I though it might be a new drain junction, but the amount of concrete that seems to be going in, could be a recap with the chambers being used for venting / access.
Will try again to access the planning files, but Cornwall County council website seems to be suffering bandwith type problems.

Sounds interesting. Anyone come across comparable structures?

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
