Thanks.
I also checked old maps today and the old shaft indicated is marked as an Old shaft (to the east of Wheal Killas, Dolcoath) on the 1908 map. There is mention of works to "the east of Wheal Killas" in 1852. However I suspect it maybe an old 18th Century shaft.
This shaft is marked on the published maps, so therefore would have been picked up in the mining survey hopefully.
So, is this a collapse? Or work to stabilise / re-cap a known shaft before building commences? I only noticed it after a period of heavy rain on Friday, but the fencing may have been there before that. Will check the planning documents to see if there is more info.
If anyone with connections to the local capping contractors has any more info, will be interesting to hear!
EDIT:
Found some more evidence that suggests Camborne Consols was on the other side of the road, so may have been part of this mine?
Is it safe to come out of the bunker yet?
